Detailed description of Sweetens Cove Golf Club

Sweetens Cove Golf Club, previously named Sequatchie Valley Golf & Country Club, is a Semi-Private, 9 hole golf course located in South Pittsburg, Tennessee, about 25 miles from Chattanooga.

The course first opened for play in 1951. The course was totally redone in 2014 upping the ante on what to expect from a 9-hole course. The new course was designed by Rob Collins and Tad King. Collins, an art history major at the nearby University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee, spent a decade apprenticing for Gary Player before heading off on his own. King had two-plus decades of maintenance and shaping across for a number of course architects. They converted a simple, low-lying layout from 1951 called Sequatchie Valley Golf & Country Club that occupied flood plain along Battle Creek, a tributary of the Tennessee River, to the amazing course we see today.

The course has been ranked by Golf Digest as the #1 nine-hole golf course in the state of Tennessee, Some believe that the course might possibly the finest nine-hole golf course in the United States.

This is somewhat of a links-style course with large greens and plenty of bunkers. There are a number of unique features that you seldom see. The course has a Biarritz green, a Redan green, a Cape hole, and a Boomerang green ( Alister Mackenzie would approve ).

The course offers a number of risk/reward opportunities. This is a course that requires more thought and skill to play well than the typical course. Approach shots left on the wrong part of these greens could cost you dearly.

The course plays to a par-36 and 3,200 yards.

Definitely one of the best 9 hole courses in the country. It's worth the price and the drive from anywhere.

Would travel: 120-300 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Expensive and worth it, Best course in the area
